Godmanchester and Huntingdon are twinned with Wertheim in Germany, Salon de Provence in France, Szentendre in Hungary and Gubbio in Italy. The principal aim of the Twinning Association is to further the good relationship between the towns of Huntingdon and Godmanchester and our four twin towns.

We do this by encouraging the formation of friendships between the different nationalities, both by individuals and groups, and especially between young people. We have an ambitious programme of exchanges and visits, ranging from quite small individual exchanges to very major festivals of sports and culture, in which teams of young people from all 6 towns compete every year, both here and abroad. Dancers, choirs, musicians and other performers travel between all the towns to entertain and to join in local events. See below for more details of our upcoming events.

While the Twinning Association is not a civic organisation we are recognised and supported by our Town Councils. The majority of our funding comes from events which we organise over the course of the year.

Upcoming Events

  • The Godmanchester Riverside Gala will feature the “Wertheim Fanfarenzug”, a fantastic marching band from our twin town of Wertheim. They are visiting Godmanchester from July 5 - 7 and will perform at the Gala on Saturday 6 July.

Host families are urgently needed! The group consists of about 48 people, and our aim is to host all them privately. We are still looking for some host families to accommodate guests for the nights of July 5 and 6. If you are interested in helping and can host 1 or 2 people, please email Gesine DeVere, who will also be happy to answer any questions you have regarding the visit.

  • The annual Inter Town Youth Festival will be held in Gubbio from September 25th - 29th, 2019. The theme will be Inter Cultural Heritage and 6 pupils each from both St Peter's and Hinchingbrooke School, along with their teachers, will be travelling to Gubbio to take part. The event will coincide with the Gubbio Medieval Festival, an important national cultural occasion, where relevant experts hold seminars and conferences and many exhibitions, book fairs, craft workshops, concerts, drama and dance performances, guided tours and open air markets take place throughout the town. This year the theme is “Women in the Middle Ages” and schools from the various twin towns have been invited to participate, in collaboration with local historians/researchers from their towns. This will be a wonderful opportunity for young people from Gubbio, Huntingdon & Godmanchester, Salon de Provence, Wertheim and Szentendre to spend time together and to participate in an exciting local festival.
